Hardin M. Hardy, son of Thomas and Sarah Hardy, was born Feb. 14, 1846 in North Carolina, and departed this life Aug. 23, 1934, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 9 days. His parents moved to this state and settled at Basswood when he was a boy of 8 years, where he has spent his years at the old home from which he departed from. He was married to Irena D. Cornwall, Feb. 17, 1864, by Rev. Marks.
To this union there were born 10 children, his wife and five children preceding him in death.
The surviving are Grover of Los Angeles, Calif., Martha Burkhamer and Robert of Basswood, Ray of Muscoda, and Alta Speilman of Fonda, Iowa. He was one of a family of seventeen children, only two of whom survive him: Mrs. Thomas Mathews of Muscoda and Verlin Hardy of Fonda, Iowa, who was present at the funeral.
There are 26 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great, great grand child.
He was a man of sterling qualities, possessing a spirit of helpfulness to everybody, kind to his family and neighbors and all who came within his
personal touch. No one was turned from his door hungry.
Early in life he was baptized and united with the Christian church. He had been in failing health for some years and an attack of summer fu some days ago hastened his departure.
The family desires to thank all who so kindly gave of themselves in this time of affliction to make their burdens lighter.
Funeral services were conducted from the Basswood church.
