Born the only child to Arthur Henry West of Pittsfield Ohio and Della May Twining of Camden Ohio.

Married first Irene Caroline Baldwin (1911 - 1995) who was born in Ontario Canada to American parents Basil Bentley Baldwin & Bertha Lewis. Two sons were born of this marriage: Theodore and Raymond.

Secondly Ralph briefly married Leona Davis Whittaker (1903 - 1970) born in Pennsylvania. Leona had a son Clifton from her 1st marriage to Joseph Whittaker; It may be that Leona and Joe Whittaker reunited again.

Married lastly Dora Messer (1917 - 1998) born in Knox County, Kentucky to Otto and Debbie Bailey Messer. 4 children were born to this marriage:
Jerome Carl, Della Mae, Olivia Jane, and Arthur Henry.

Ralph maintained the large family home in Oberlin Ohio at 222 Main Street as a boarding house to Oberlin College students, and another in Bedford where he raised his second family. Widowed mother Della Twining West lived with Ralph and his second family at the end of her life.

Ralph worked mainly as a machinist.

He achieved his dream to "return home" to Oberlin to retire and die. Ralph & Dora are buried in Camden Cemetery with their youngest adult son Artie. Ralph's parents, well loved Oberlin residents Arthur and Della (Twining) West, and maternal Twining grandparents & extended Twining relatives are in this cemetery.

The vast majority of West descendents older than father Artie are buried in the South Pittsfield Cemetery, dating back to the early 1800s. The Camden Cemetery is the center of Twining burials dating as equally old.
