David S. McGee Jr. was born July 25, 1763 in Scotland Township, Virginia. He was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War, serving in the infantry from Virginia as a private then a sargent in Nathan Reid's Company, 14th and 10th Virginia Regiments. He enlisted September 1 1777, and was last mentioned November 1779. He served under Gen. George Washington. Muster rolls for March, April, and May 1778 list David McGee at Valley Forge. On March 23,1793 in Wilks County, North Carolina he married Mary Cook. David and Mary moved to Tennessee and then to North River, Alabama,1817. Twp 205, Range 9W for 79 acres purchased Nov. 17, 1830. Purchases of land were made from the US government in 1824, 1834, and 1852. His epitaph reads; David McGee "Died at his residence in this county on Friday the 7th inst. age 94 years and 15 days. He served in the latter part of the Revolutionay War, and was one of the early settlers in Tennessee, where he removed to this county in 1817, and has resided here ever since. David was born in Scotland July 25, 1763. He came to Virginia then to North Carolina. In 1793 he married Mary Cook. He moved to Tennessee and then to Alabama, North River in 1817. Thus is rapidly passing away the noble band of patriots, who achieved our independence against such fearful odds, and amid such dreadful privations. The widow whom he leaves behind to mourn his death was his sixth wife. He lies buried by the side of three of his wifes. Peace be to his ashes." Communicated Tusacaloosa Monitor, August 27, 1857. David (1763-1857) " A marker was dedicated in Capitol Park in Tuscaloosa AL on Apr 1972 by Tuscaloosa Chapter DAR in honor of 17 Revolutionary Soldiers buried in Tuscaloosa County." David McGee's name is listed. He was the father of Ralph McGee b. Feb. 18, 1796 in TN ,the father of Mary McGee Buchanan Overby.(Nancy's DRT ancestor)
