DECATUR - Marilyn Jeannette (Steiner) Black, 72, joined her Lord on Friday, September 11, 2009 after a 12 year battle against breast cancer. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL, with visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Garden, Champaign, IL Memorials may be made to Decatur Memorial Hospice; Cancer Care Center; Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Marilyn was born to John & Beulah (Kelley) Steiner on January 22, 1937 in her home east of Buckley, Illinois. She attended school in a rural Buckley one-room schoolhouse and then graduated from Onarga. She recently celebrated 50 years of marriage to Thomas Black on April 11, 1959. She worked for Universal Bleacher Company, Champaign. After moving to Decatur in 1971 she volunteered at Church and WL Schools and then worked & retired from the Clinton Power Plant. She enjoyed traveling with Tom in their truck camper, Harley, motor home. Often visiting extended family, RAGBRAI, and attending the H-D celebrations. Marilyn was also active at Mt. Calvary Church, bowled for years, and was known as Ten Pin in the CB days. Survivors include her husband; Children: Andrew (Cynthia) Black, Oakley, IL and Toni (Jerry) Humpfer; Ankeny, IA; Grandchildren, Crystal (Sean) Means and Jessica and Tyler Humpfer. Her twin brother Marlyn (Myrna) Steiner, New Braunfels, TX; Sister Twyla Steiner, Champaign, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jeanine Black, Mahomet, IL along with many nieces and nephews; She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Willis and Helen Black, two brothers, Robert Steiner (as a toddler) and Ronald Steiner and her in-laws Stan & Anne Black, Carol Black and Raymond Black. The family would especially like to thank the staff of her many doctors and DMH Hospice for the care and compassion they have shared with Marilyn & Tom during her years of illness.
