Justice of the Peace, Frederick county, Md. of which Montgomery county was still a part of, as well as the city of Georgetown. 1st elected mayor of Georgetown, then part of Md. in 1791. One of 19 landowners who sold land to George Washington for the formation of the District of Columbia. Had numerous landholdings in the Mt. Pleasant and Pleasant Plains sections of the city. Built and owned many houses, some still standing today and bearing his name in title search. Remains were later removed (29Oct1891) and placed in family plot at Oak Hill cemetery in nearby Georgetown section of Washington, D.C.
