She was born in Lyman, Wyoming to Isaac Ferguson and Daisy Ione Shelton.
She is survived by siblings Ione Jarmillo, Mattie Gard and Duke Ferguson, three children, Danny Hatch, Ken Allred, Bambi Portmann (Rex), nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mom was a caring, generous woman, an independent spirit, and free thinker. She loved the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to hold, cuddle, and rock them to sleep. "Nana" was frequently one of the first words her little grandchildren would learn. She also spent many hours with her nieces and nephews and their children, who loved the hours of entertainment she could provide.
One of her favorite pastimes was reading, she would devour books until eye problems made this extremely difficult. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, and woodworking. She lived her life to help others. All you had to say was "I need," if she could build it, sew it or crochet it, you had it.
She worked at Hill Air Force Base for 30 years earning respect for her intelligence in the personnel department she supervised. She retired in 1991. An avid Utah Jazz fan often found enjoying wrestling one arm bandits in Wendover and Mesquite. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East, where friends and family may call from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the services.
Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
A celebration of her life will follow at her home.
