Curtis W. Culler was born on November 11, 1881 in Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana. His parents were Belinda A. Powell Culler and David J. Culler. Curt had one sister and four brothers. They were affiliated with the Church of the Brethren and were in the farming business. When Curt was 21 years old, he came by train to work for his brother Charley on a farm in Iowa.

He married Orpha Baker, daughter of Jennie Whiting Baker and William (Billy) Baker in Cherokee, Cherokee County, Iowa on March 20, 1907. They had four daughters and one son.

Orpha and Curt bought a farm from Nimrod Lease north of the Meadow Star Church. After farming in the Pierson community for forty year, they purchased the acreage on Minnewashta Lake, Dickinson County, Iowa that was formerly owned by William (Billy) Baker. Lake Minnewashta is the second of three small lakes leading to the outlet creek of the Iowa Great Lakes. The lake is known for its panfish angling; especially for bluegill during the summer and winter seasons. The lake produces some quality walleye fishing action after walleye season closes on Spirit, East and West Okoboji Lakes. They lived there for about twenty-five yeas. In 1970, they returned to Pierson and bought the house formerly owned by William Reinking.

Curt passed away in February 1972 at the age of 91 years. Orpha passed away March 14, 1988. They are both buried at the Greenwood Cemetery, Pierson, Woodbury County, Iowa. Last known address Arnolds Park, Iowa 51331
