Brief Life History of Helen Joyce
When Helen Joyce McVey was born on 20 January 1908, in Whitestown, Vernon, Wisconsin, United States, her father, Edward Liola McVey, was 28 and her mother, Lillian May White, was 23. She married Frank Percy Blackmore on 22 August 1936, in Maricopa, Pinal, Arizona, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son. She lived in Ontario, Vernon, Wisconsin, United States in 1935 and Supervisorial District 1, Cochise, Arizona, United States in 1940. In 1961, at the age of 53, her occupation is listed as school teacher - special education in Ontario, Vernon, Wisconsin, United States. She died on 14 November 1983, in Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona, United States, at the age of 75, and was buried in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, Vernon, Wisconsin, United States.
A most excellent family tree put together by Helen Joyce (nee McVey) Blackmore, granddaughter of Allen McVey had a small note written by John W. McVey name which was "(Ward?)" This family tree was passed to my parents at the funeral service of Hettie Widmer McVey in 1967 (my grandmother). Many who received this tree (and many have) wondered where Ward came from. Many have tried to figure this out and all have failed. However, the ones I have talked to have come to the same conclusion: There was never a Ward McVey in this family. 1. There was never a Ward McVey, son of Reuben and Elizabeth nee Kennard McVey. 2. John W. McVey's middle name is not Ward - nobody still breathing knows what his middle name was. Maybe some day a record will surface providing insight. 3. Ward appeared once and only once in the documents relating to Reuben & Elizabeth McVey and their immediate family. It was an error in Lewis McVey's obituary published in in La Farge Enterprise 26 Oct 1916, Thu · Page 5 which read "He leaves to mourn his lose" .... "one brother, Ward, of Chesterhill, Ohio" The brother in Chesterhill, Ohio is David J McVey. Thus, Ward is a mistake in Lewis McVey's obituary that conjured up Ward from thin air! Mystery Solved!
