Funeral services for Elizabeth Ross Alford, 82, of Coila, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Williams & Lord Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alford died of a stroke Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

She was a homemaker, a former teacher at Midway School and was the owner and manager of a grocery store. A native of Carroll County, she resided there for most of her life.
She was a graduate of Vaiden High School and Holmes Junior College. She was an avid gardener and a member of New Hope Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. "Newt" Alford; a son, Kenneth A. Alford; her parents, Garrison and Katie Bailey Ross; and a sister, Wilma Hobgood.

She is survived by three sons, Wayne Alford and his wife, Nancy, of Greenwood, Pat Alford and his wife, Brenda, of Irmo, S.C., and Mike Alford and his wife, Jennifer, of Coila; four sisters, Josie Minchew of Vaiden, Katherine Wilcher of Carthage, Bonnie Arends of Tampa, Fla., and Sarah Parker of Clinton; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Larry Edwards and Donnie Waller will officiate at the services.

Burial will be in New Hope Christian Church Cemetery in Carroll County.

Pallbearers will be Marc Alford, Todd Alford, Wayne Blaylock, Hodges Jennings, Chris Holly, Chip Hodges and Chris Meyer.

Dr. Walter Moses will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 this evening and from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the New Hope Cemetery Fund, 2143 County Road 23, Greenwood, MS 38930.
