Billy Eugene DeWitt, 67, son of Chloe DeWitt and Nellie Cole DeWitt, was born Jan. 7, 1934, near Raymondville. He died Oct. 20, 2001, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
He married Evelyn Stringer Aug. 25, 1951. They had four children.
Mr. DeWitt served in the U.S. Army from the beginning of 1955 until the end of that year. He worked at the Chevrolet plant, as a coal miner and in the timber industry.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wilbur Dale DeWitt; and a great-grandson.
Surviving are Evelyn Stringer DeWitt of Hartshorn; his children, Sharon Morgan and Brenda Nolen of Raymondville, Rickey DeWitt of Springfield and Mary DeWitt of Summersville; two brothers, Robert DeWitt of Raymondville and Chloe Dean DeWitt of Hartshorn; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grand-children.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. A private interment is planned at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time for the memorial services Sunday at the Bradford chapel.
