His family name is Zadroga but it was changed to Ladroga at Ellis Island.

Zigmond (Zadroga) Ladroga, 82, of 116 Church St., Gardner, died Saturday, November 10, 2001, at home.

He leaves his wife, Alfreda T. (Allain) Ladroga; a daughter, Kathleen A. Gallant of Gardner; two sons, John A. Ladroga of Phillipston and Richard K. Ladroga of Gardner; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one nephew.

He was born in Gardner on August 27, 1919, the son of John and Francyska (Drawczyk) Zadroga. He grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School.

Mr. Ladroga was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He served as Chief Boatswain's Mate on the USS Lexington CV2 and was onboard when it was lost during the battle in the Coral Sea. He receive the American Defense Ribbon with one engagement star, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon with three engagement stars, EAMF Area Ribbon, and Good Conduct Ribbon.

Mr. Ladroga worked as a machinist and assembler at General Electric in Fitchburg for many years. He previously worked at Sikorsky and Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut.

Mr. Ladroga was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was a long time member of the Oliva Case V.F.W. Post No. 905 in Gardner, where he was active in the honor guard for many years. He played football for the Gardner Merchants for several years.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2001 from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Gardner.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Holy Rosary School, 99 Nichols Street, Gardner MA, 01440 or to the Levi Heywood Memorial Library Association - New Library Building Fund, 57 City Hall Ave., Gardner, MA 01440.
