J.B.F. Lindsey was the son of Jesse L. Lindsey (1819 Ga. - 1849, died in Jones Co., GA.) and Elizabeth T. Huff (1823 -1850, born and died in Jasper Co., GA).

His grandparents were Jacob Lindsey (born 1778 in SC; died 1857) and Mary Phebe Lindsey (1781-1867).

From a 1921 letter by J.B.F. Lindsey:

"Grandfather Jacob Lindsey....after the war he drew a piece of land in Jones County, Georgia and him and Grandma Pheby moved to it in the open woods and built a rail pen and lived in it until they could build a log house. They raised a family on it, so I have been told.
I have grandmother's old Bible. She was a Primitive Baptist and read her Bible a heap while...She had a great memory, always spake her honest conviction."

Guardianship File, Jones County, GA:

Elias Lindsey appointed guardian of Benjamin F. Lindsey, minor and orphan under age of 14 years son of Jesse Lindsey, now deceased, and gave bond in the sum of $1,600 and gave Thomas Lindsey and Jacob Lindsey and his sureties received and was qualified as Guardian. This first day of September, 1851, Jones County, Georgia."

"The LaFayette Sun" - November 29, 1916:

Golden Wedding.

On the 3rd instant, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. F. Lindsey celebrated their fiftieth marriage anniversary at their home near Buffalo, Ala. While there were no fixed ceremonies for the occasion everything seemed to move along in excellent order from first to last, thus making the occasion a most enjoyable one by all present. By ten o’clock the friends and neighbors began to assemble and at twelve all were marched out into the beautiful grove that surrounded their premises, and all joined in serving a most tempting dinner. Just such as old time farmers are prepared to prepare.
Outside the family circle the guests were select and distinguished distinguished for their age as most all present were past middle age and many much advanced in years.
It had been agreed that we would hold religious services and accordingly early after dinner all assembled in the house and listened to a short discourse by the writer, and remarks by Elder M. Shaddix and Bro. B. F. House, then after very feeling and appropriate remarks by Brother Lindsey the people began to disperse.
This aged and honorable couple have seven living children, forty three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. We think it appropriate to here quote Solomon “Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children are their fathers.”
Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey are among those who are highly favored, as through all this half century they have enjoyed perfect prosperity, and in their declining days have a competency, and if nothing unusual should occur they will leave to their generation much of the fruits of their labor. From them young men and young women can learn lessons of usefulness, as their success is due to their honesty and economy.
We wish for them many more years of pleasure in their marriage relations.

- J. T. Satterwhite, Nov. 27, 1916.

April 16, 1930 obituary from "The LaFayette Sun":

J.B.F. Lindsey Dies Near Buffalo Saturday.

J.B.F. Lindsey, prominent farmer and citizen, passed away at his home near Buffalo last Saturday after an illness of several days and peridically for several months. Death came to the veteran Chambers County citizen at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning. The deceased was for many years actively identified with the life of the community in which he lived, but during late years he contented himself by staying near his home. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Macedonia, and lived to rear a fine family of children under the guiding influence of the church. He was twice married, both wives having preceeded him to the grave. Funderal service was held at Macedonia last Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Elder J.T. Satterwhite of this city officiating. Interment was in the cemetery of the Macedonia church. Surviving the deceased are three sons, Joe, Ed and John Lindsey, and two daughters, Mrs. Still of Fairfax and Mrs. Harmon of Buffalo, besides a number of other immediate and near relatives and friends.
