ADAMS COUNTY FREE PRESS, Corning, Iowa, Friday, October 22, 1926, Page 9: William D., son of Jordan P. and Mary L. Harris, was born in Athens county, Ohio, September 5, 1846, and died at the home of his son, Lew C. Harris, 1315 Montgomery street, Knoxville, Iowa, October 14, 1926, at the age of 80 years 1 month and 9 days.
On April 11, 1875, he was united in marriage to Nira E. Coler, one of the successful teachers of that day. In this union one son was born. In May 1870 Mr. and Mrs. Harris came overland to Iowa settling in Adams county near Quincy and later moving into the vicinity of Mt. Etna and in the spring of 1890 they moved to Corning where for twenty four years he was a trusted employee of the New ______.
On October 13, 1916, he was called upon to give up his life companion by death. Disposing of his home in Corning he went to live with his son who at that time was pastor of the church of Christ at Ames, Iowa. Later Mr. Harris spent three years in Boulder, Colorado, returing to Iowa in 1922. He spent three years at Ames, Iowa, and for the past year and a half has been located in Corning while the son and his wife were serving as field secretaries at Drake university. After they located in Knoxville, Iowa, Mr. Harris went to their home to live. He has been in poor health for the past six months and on September 23, 1926 became bedfast and grew steadily weaker until the end came quietly at 12:12 Thursday morning.
In early life he joined the United Brethren church and since 1899 has been a member of the Christian church.

He is survived by his son, Lew C. Harris, and one granddaughter, Ila Harris of Knoxville, Iowa; one sister Mrs. Rebecca Wagner of Concordia, Kansas; two half brothers, Steven H. Preston, Mt. Etna, Iowa and Isaac H. Preston of California, besides a large number of other relatives.
Mr. Harris was widely known in Adams county and a host of friends will remember him for the kindly and courteous treatment he always accorded them.
Just ten years ago the day of Mr. Harris' funeral and at the same hour Mrs. Harris' was being held at the Church of Christ.
Mr. Harris was brought to Corning and funeral services were held at the Church Friday at 2:30 o'clock p.m. conducted by Rev. W. B. Crewson. The body was laid to reside beside his wife in Walnut Grove cemetery.
