Peter Dixon Pelsor was killed April 12, 1902 in Metamora, Franklin Co., Indiana by his wife's son-in-law Richard Oliphant who was looking looking for his wife and children and found Peter Pelsor instead and shot him in the back.
Peter Dixon was born June 6, 1821 in Montgomery, Hamilton Co., Ohio to John T. Pelsor and Catherine A. Roof. He married Lucy Ann Morgan November 10, 1843 in Brookville, Indiana. They had three children: Henry Clay, Virginia R. Newingham and Lucy Ann Mints. Lucy died Sept. 16, 1849 in Metamora.
He second married Jemima Ann Morford July 14, 1850 in Metamora. They had the following children: daughters, Indiana Alley, Miriam Bunyard, Ellen Gold, Laura Sherwood and Olive Sherwood and one son Sargent Pelsor. Jemina died July 26, 1889 in Franklin Co.
He third married Elizabeth Pierson Burns, June 19, 1891 in Metamora.
Peter mustered into the US service as a member of Co. F, Eighteenth Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was in many engagements including Vicksburg. He mustered out Dec. 14, 1864 as a full captain. He was awarded the distinguished service award on the Union side.
