Army Pfc Lyons was assigned to the 545th Military Police Company, Arctic Military Police Battalion, Fort Richardson, Alaska. He died of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an explosive device. Thomas attended Fernley High School in Fernley, Nevada where he was on the wrestling and football teams. He joined the Army on November 23, 2007, after earning his GED diploma in Reno. His brother-in-law had enlisted and this encouraged Thomas to go forward to better himself. He also wanted to go to Iraq to make the world a better and safer place. Along the way, Thomas found his calling in life – he was a military policeman and wanted to become a police officer after leaving the Army. He treated others with respect and becoming a father was one of the happiest days of his life. His wife, Delvin, is also an active duty soldier and his son is now three months old. Thomas' family laughs about his mischievous side and his love of a good time, but they also said he never really understood just how great he was.
