As a result of a lengthy illness, death claimed John E. Garner, age 73 years, 4 months, and 17 days, Friday, November 1. Mr. Garner has lived in the Wheeling Community since he was 12 years of age. He was born in Natchez, Miss., and was a member of the Christian Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 2 at the Mt. Zion Church and interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Rev. J. A. Jones, of Wheeling, and Rev. Lula Wardlow, of Montgomery, officiated.

Pallbearers were Mr. Garner's grandsons, Elbert Stroud, J. Henry Stroud, Aaron Stroud, R. B. Horn, Ben Horn, and Frank Crew.

Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Ms. Mattie Hallmark Garner; five sons, Paul, Otis, Eugene, Arnold, and J. E. Garner, all of Montgomery, La.; four daughters, Mrs. Lula Horn, Mrs. Ola Crew, Mrs. Pearl Jennings, and Mrs. Mae Davison, Montgomery, and 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
