Judge N. M. Humphrey died at his home at this place, Monday morning, February 4, 1895, age about eight-six years, after an illness extending over many months. Mr. Humphrey was born in Connecticut and removed to Ohio in 1835, where he served as Judge of Probate, Member of the Legislature, and other positions. He came to this place in 1863, and engaged in the mercantile business.

For many years he was Judge of Probate of this county, and with the exception of about two years he has been postmaster since 1868. He was twice married, having two children by the first union, a son Mark, who died several years ago, and a daughter, Laura, now a resident here. He was married to his present wife in 1861. He was one of the grandest men that ever come west; moderate and conservative in his views and actions, charitable and liberal in his dealings.

With a sympathetic disposition and a kind word and pleasant smile for all, he had hosts of friends who will regret to part with him. He was a prominent Mason, and the funeral occurred Wednesday from the family residence, under charge of Zion Lodge No. 55, A.F. and A.M. of this place, the remains being interred in Kahbakong cemetery.
