Emma L. Jennings was born June 18, 1852 in Erie County, New York. Part of her early childhood had been spent in McLean Co., Illinois, where she was married to Howard Henry LaRue January 11, 1848. The two came to Adams county immediately where they made their home until the tragic death of Mr. LaRue August 23, 1903, when he was drowned trying to save those whose lives were endangered at the time of the Corning flood. One daughter and two sons were born to this union. Ida Ann Jones of LuVerne, Iowa is the daughter and one son, Bertie Franklin lives in Omaha. An infant son, Roy Joseph, died in infancy August 30, 1894. Charlie Pullen of Council Bluffs and Chester Pullen of Omaha were reared in the home.
Mrs. Larue was the last of eleven children. For many years she was identified with the Methodist Episcopal church and was faithful in her performance of duty.
