Harry Hardwick Dewberry, Jr. (Butch) died September 4, 2009 after a long and valiant fight with ALS. He is now at peace, safe in the arms of Jesus.
Harry was born in Atlanta, GA, but grew up in Pensacola. A graduate of Pensacola High School in 1962, he received an AA degree from Junior College in 1964 and a BS degree from The University of Florida in 1966. Enlisting in the United States Army, he served as a Commissioned Officer with rank of Captain. During the Vietnam War he served the Deputy Chief of Staff Logistics, U.S. Army Headquarters Republic of Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service.
Following military service, Harry was employed by The Prudential Insurance Company of America, serving in the South Central Home Office in Jacksonville, FL and the Corporate Systems Service Center in Roseland, NJ. He retired after 23 years. Returning to Pensacola in January 1997, he made his home in the Beulah area.
Harry is survived by his wife, Jerry P. Dewberry, formerly of East Point, Georgia; a son, Raymond D. Dewberry, of Clearwater, FL; son, Aaron C. Nauret of Jacksonville, FL; mother, Ava B. Frakes of Pensacola; sister, Martha Will Bailey (Dick) of Pace; sister, Dorothy C. Costello of Foley, Alabama and their families.
Harry will be buried at Barrancas National Cemetery, where his two brothers, David O. Dewberry, Joseph M. Dewberry and other family members are interred.
The local ALS support group meets every second Saturday at 11:00 a.m., at West Florida Rehabilitation Institute. For more information contact Tim Cook at [email protected]
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home with Chaplain Larry Westman officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 100 Beverly Parkway is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
