Also called "Bitha", she first married JAMES G. EDWARD MARTIN who was born in Kentucky and came to Missouri from Iowa where he had settled with his family. Tobitha and James Martin had one child together, Mary Jane Martin. James had several other children from two previous marriages. Tobitha only had one child of her own but was stepmother to Lucy Annie (Engle) & James Gott's children: Fanny Isabel, Joseph Reese, Charles Edward, Levi Thomas and James Francis.
After Tobitha's first husband James Martin died at Springfield, Greene Co, MO, in June of 1884, Tobitha married Joseph Sutton Gott, a widower, and became stepmother to his five children. Joseph is also buried at Union Home Cemetery, next to his first wife Lucy Annie (Engle) Gott and their son James Francis Gott.
