One of six boys and 12 children born to John and Margaret MacKenzie, Peter MacKenzie died in 1917 during World War I.

He enlisted in the Lovat Scouts in 1915 and then transferred to the 4th Seaforth Highlanders in 1916. A Lance Corporal, he was killed in action at Arras, France on 9 April 1917. He is buried in France.

He is remembered on the Arras Memorial in France (under the name, Peter McKenzie) and on the Dundonnell Memorial in Dundonnell, Scotland.
