John Ebert enlisted as a Private in Company A of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on September 8, 1862, for 3 years, at age 38. He died of dysentery at Frederick, Maryland.
John married Mary Victoria Disher on October 15, 1855. Their children were Mary, Eliza, William, and Ella. John Disher, a fellow soldier in also from Company A of the Fourth Michigan Infantry became the custodian of John Ebert's children after their mother remarried (James Plato) in 1864.
