William was born at either Science Hill or Malakoff, Henderson County, Texas, CSA, during the War Between The States. He died in Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma and is buried in East Hill Cemetery, Roff, Oklahoma.

A large stone bears the name PHARES in large letters on both sides. Beneath PHARES are text blocks sufficient for the inscription of eight names (four on the front and four on back). Three of the blocks have been inscribed on each side, leaving one spot blank on each side.

W. R. Phares, 76, of Ada, Rt. 1, passed away Dec. 27, at 1:45 p.m., at his home. Funeral services will be held Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Criswell Funeral Home, Rev. Stubblefield officiating; internment in East Hill Cemetery, Roff.

The deceased is survived by two sons, Tom and Jim Phares of Holdenville, and two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Babbs and Mrs. G. A. Logan of Ada, Rt.1.
