Hicks Curtis, 75, died Saturday at his Kendallville residence. He was born May 5, 1923 in Knott County, Ky. to Ballard and Ora (Wicker) Hicks. He married Hattie Knox Jan. 4, 1947 in Paintsville, Ky. He had been a laborer at Lane and Newnam foundries. He was a member of Little Flossie Old Regular Baptis Church in Lisbon. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Vickie Black and Cathy Johnson of Kendallville, and Diane Morningstar of Fort Wayne; a half-sister, Barbarra Waugh of Dema, Ky.; a brother, Ballard Jr. of LaGrange; a half-brother, Roger Hicks of West Liberty, Ky.; 2 sisters, Dorsie Patton of eastern Ky., and Lucy Moore of Kendallville; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Linda Hodge and Sherry Conley; a brother, Huey; and 2 sisters, Flossie Wicker and Beulah Nichols. Funeral at Little Flossie Church Wednesday. Burial, Orange Cemetery. + 4-10-1999

Curtis was a World War II Veteran of the US Navy and was a Seaman 2nd Class Curtis Hicks USN-1 WWII 828 44 77. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Medal w/Asia Clasp (Nagasaki), and the Navy Seabees Patch.
