Oliver W Kempton was residing in Halifax, VT on 31 Jul 1862 when he enlisted in Co E, Vermont 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment. He mustered out on 8 Nov 1862.
Oliver W Kempton was residing in Halifax, VT on 29 Dec 1863 when he re-enlisted. He joined Co E, Vermont 8th Infantry Regiment on 7 Jan 1864
Oliver was mustered out on 20 Apr 1864; the reason was "died of disease".

I cannot confirm, nor do I believe, that Oliver physically is buried in Northampton, Mass. The gravesite was purchased by his son, Frederick.

Oliver's name appears as Kimpton in the Civil War Pension Index. Frederick used both Kempton & Kimpton as spellings in various vital records.
