JOHNSON–Mary Mercedes Mikesic, 89, Nanty Glo, died Sept. 4, 2009, at Miners Hospital. Born May 13, 1920, in Ashville to Augustine & Naomi Gallagher. Predeceased by husband, Leslie Johnson; sister, Rita McClinsey and grandsons, James Gall and Scott Mikesic. Survived by sons, Stephen Mikesic, married to former Rose Ann Dino, Nanty Glo, and Raymond Mikesic, Ebensburg; daughters, Josephine Gall, Delaware, and Anna Marie Wallick, married to Don, Florida; stepchildren, Irene Ackerly, California, and David Johnson, Ohio; grandchildren, Stephen, Deanna, James and Daniel; Richard; and Don, Monica, Margret and Julia; stepgrandchildren, David and Lori; and William, Linda, Kathy and Harry; and numerous great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Norma Barosky, married to Sam, and Jean DeMarco; and brother, James Gallagher, married to Joan. Mercedes was a retired seamstress from the Nanty Glo sewing factory, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and past member and president of Nanty Glo Senior Citizens. She loved flowers and enjoyed bird watching, growing vegetables in her garden, sewing and taking pictures. Most entertaining of her picture taking was her uncanny forgetfulness to remember to turn on the flash. That meant you were guaranteed a retake, two poses and two pictures for one. Relatives and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where Legion of Mary will recite the Rosary and a liturgical wake service will be held. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church, Nanty Glo, Father Martin A. Cingle, celebrant. Interment, Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg.
