Deputy Holguin was shot and killed while assisting a young child who was at a bus stop at Florence and Vinevale Avenues, Bell, CA.

Deputy Holguin had just finished his late night shift and was heading home when he saw the boy by himself at the bus stop. He stopped and called the Bell Police Department, identified himself as a Deputy Sheriff, and waited with the boy while Bell police responded. While he waited, the boy's father, an illegal alien heroin addict, arrived.

At some point in the next few minutes, a local resident, Jack Dangerfield Jefferies arrived, challenged Deputy Holguin and shot him in the face with a .45 caliber handgun.

Officer Tony Dannan of the Bell Police Dept. arrived moments later and was with Deputy Holguin as he lay mortally wounded. David did not die alone and am sure he was comforted by a fellow peace officer being with him as he passed from this world.

Dangerfield was apprehended, confessed to shooting David and was convicted of second degree murder. He was sentenced to 15 years to life and remains in prison some 30 years later.

David was a great young man and a Deputy Sheriff that worked Firestone Station. He had a bright future... sadly cut short.
