Victoria Leverance

Victoria "Vicky" Edna Rose Karau Leverance, 87, Apple Valley, Minn., and formerly of Merrill, died Friday, April 21, 2006, at her home.

She was born Aug. 23, 1918, in the town of Merrill, to the late George and Hattie (Hackbarth) Plamann. Victoria married Carl Karau on Dec. 25, 1940, in Trinity Lutheran Church at Dutch Corners. He preceded her in death. On July 3, 1976, she married Donald Leverance in St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. He preceded her in death.

Vicky graduated from Merrill High School in 1932. She then graduated from Wisconsin College of Cosmetology. Vicky had owned and operated Vic's Lincoln Beauty Salon in Merrill for more than 50 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in Merrill, and attended Cedarcrest Church in Bloomington, while living in Minnesota. She was a member, and a former docent, of the Merrill Historical Society. She was also a member of the Merrill Christian Women's Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Vicky had served as secretary and also president of the Wisconsin Hairdressers Association. She served as the national chairman for the National Beauty Salon Week, and was elected as the Wisconsin representative to the National Cosmetology and Hairdressers Association.

For many years she sponsored a bowling team in Merrill. She enjoyed traveling and had covered most of the United States. Vicky especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and moved to Apple Valley to be with them.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Alden Beversdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, and again from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church.
