"Hemphill--Died, at 12:30 o'clock Monday morning, May 17, 1909, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Haas, 102 West Charles street, of a complication of diseases, Thomas Hemphill, aged 75 years.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at the residence. Rev. George C. Dunlop, pastor of Christ Episcopal church, will officiate. The remains will be taken to Attica, Ind., where the interment will be made.

The decedent was born in Independence, Ind., Jan. 13, 1834. He was a well-known business man in Attica for forty years and upon retiring from business ten years ago came to this city to live with his daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Haas of this city." - Illinois State Journal, Springfield, Illinois, Monday, May 17, 1909

The remains were taken on the 9:50 o'clock Wabash train to Attica, Ind., accompanied by Mrs. Hemphill and Mr. and Mrs. Haas.
