He was a native of Lee County, a retired dispatcher with Gifford Hill Concrete Co. and a member of Gate City Baptist Church.
Surviving are wife, Mrs Frances Murchison Vandergrift, daughters Mrs Martha V Webster and Mrs Julia Mill of Greensboro, Mrs Sara York of Augusta Ga. eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of the daughter Mrs Julia Mills Guilford Jamestown Road.
