Jacob was born about 1819 at sea, on board the ship that was bringing his family to the US, probably from Switzerland. His mother was Barbary Ann. His father's name is not known, but was most likely Jacob or Felix. His parents lived in Philadelphia for a while, but in the late 1820's or early 1830's they moved to Carroll Co, Ohio.
Jacob's father died before 1840 in Carroll Co, Ohio.
In 1840 there was Jacob Momen (age 20-30) living alone in Beaver twp., Columbiana Co, Ohio (probably was him).
In 1849 or 1850 he purchased 40 acres in Jo Daviess Co. IL. He raised his family here and lived in Jo Daviess Co. until he died.
