Romayne Eugene "Pat" Patterson
Pat Patterson, age 72, Ore., passed away at home, September 26, 2001. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weiser, under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home, Weiser.
Pat was born July 23, 1929, in Portland, Ore., to Dorian Econda and Mildred (Vera) Patterson. Pat married Joann Blackburn June 6, 1949, to Corvallis, Ore.
Pat attended two years at the University of Oregon, majoring in Journalism. He held a position in classified at the Oregonian Newspaper. Later, he took a position on sales with the Singer Sewing Machine Company, and in 1961, Pat and Joann operated the last Singer Resident Sales Store (in home) in the United States — in a large old house in Baker, Ore. He also enlisted on the Army on Aug. 11, 1952, transferred to the Army Reserve Aug. 11, 1955, and was honorably discharged Aug. 24, 1960.
In 1969 Pat and Joann opened their own sewing machine and vacuum cleaner store, Pat's Vac and Sew, in downtown Ontario, Ore. They worked side-by-side there until they retired in 1995. 26 years later.
Survivors include his son, Allen Patterson of West Valley, Utah, four daughters, Iva Jean King of The Dalles, Ore., Karen Sparkman of Boise, Idaho, Linda Youngblood of Weiser, Idaho, and Rebecca Tweedy of Caldwell, Idaho; two brothers, George Patterson of Vancouver, Wash., and David Patterson of Flagstaff, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. Pat was preceded to death by his wife, Joann, and his parents.
