Samuel S McClinton was born the 25th of December 1800 in Abbeville, South Carolina to John and Betsy (Anderson) McClinton. They and five other families arrived Christmas day of 1804 in what would become Sparta Illinois and became the first settler's here. He married Nancy Agnes Miller, daughter of John & Jane (Irwin) Miller. They had 13 children.
