MILITARY BURIAL FOR CASS E. BLAIR
A crowd which filled both auditoriums of the Methodist Church was in attendance at the funeral of Cass E. Blair, held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. H. E. Ryan, pastor of the Methodist Church of which he was a member, conducted the services and members of the American Legion served as pall bearers and Samuel T. Adams Post of the Legion had charge of the services at the grave. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Practically all of the stores around the square closed out of respect to the memory of one of the oldest merchants--in point of years that he had been in Kennett. He and his brother Owen Blair, had operated Blair Brothers Store since 1921, and prior to that time he had been employed for a number of years in the business which they took over.

There were an unusually large number of floral offerings, one of the largest and most beautiful being the piece given by the American Legion.

Flower girls at the funeral included Mrs. G. I Gilmore, Mrs. U. A. V. Presnell Mrs. I. A. Pickard, Mrs. H. E. Edmiston, Mrs. Joe Dell and Mrs. Lawrence Wilman.

Pall bearers included, Clay Simer, Rush Smith, Dr. G. I. Gilmore,John Legan, Bob Clark and Dee McMulin.

Lieutenants Arthur Thrower and Bert Terry wee in charge of the military escort made up of members of Company E, of the National Guard, who also served as a firing squad at the grave.

Post Commander Elmer Hicklin, assisted by Needham Holley, chaplain of the Samuel T Adams Post, conducted the services at the grave, in which was pointed out the military record of their departed comrade. Cass Blair enlisted May 28, 1918 at Caruthersville, MO., and served overseas in France with Co. "E" 309th Engineers. He was discharged April 21, 1919 at Camp Zachary Taylor, KY., with excellent character.

Out-of-town friends and relatives who were here for the funeral included: Carl Blair, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Umberger, Cherry Valley, Ark, Herman Blair, Paducah, Ky., Roy Crain, Little Rock; Mrs. Elmer Clark, Walter Blair, St. Louis; Miss Maxine Doyle Sims, Steele; Mrs. Bob Yates, Campbell; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sims, V. H. Fletcher, Frances Hunter, Mrs. E. E. Argo.
