Author, Screenwriter, Playwright. Best known for his novel "Billy Liar" (1959). Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, he served two years in the Royal Air Force before beginning his career as a Fleet Street reporter. After penning his first novel "There Is A Happy Land" (1957), he launched a successful career writing scripts for British television and films. His most noted work was the result of his collaboration with screenwriter Willis Hall (1929-2005), which included "The Valiant" (1961), "Whistle Down the Wind" (1961), "A Kind of Loving" (1962), "Billy Liar" (1963 film adaptation from his book) and "The Man in the Middle" (1964). Waterhouse was a significant writing contributor for the 1960's television programs "That Was the Week That Was" and "The Frost Report". Beginning in the 1970's, he was a columnist with Daily Mirror. He wrote the commercially successful play "Jefferey Bernard Is Unwell".
