Betty Louise Arterburn, 81, died March 16, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney NE.

The daughter of John V. and Lillie L. Patton Smith, she was born August 23, 1924 at Bird City, Kansas. She attended rural schools and graduated from the Red Cloud High School in 1942.

She was united in marriage with Howard J. Arterburn on August 11, 1942 at the Sacred Heart Church in Red Cloud. They made their home together on the farm where she helped her husband farming and raising her children in Webster County.

She was employed for a number of years as a nurse's aid at the Webster County Community Hospital. In her leisure time Betty enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and knitting. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, on January 30, 1993; a daughter, Carol Lee Arterburn; a son, Robert Joseph Arterburn; brother, John; and sister, Verna.

Survived by her daughters, Jane (John) Schultz, Sandra (Merrill) Duntz and Judy (David) Vrtiska; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

The rosary was recited at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Red Cloud. The Mass of Christian Burial was held March 20, 2006 from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud with Fr. Mel Rempe officiating. Connie Bostock was the vocalist, accompanied by Barbara Sprague, organist. The casketbearers were Lonnie Knehans, Merle Illian, Bob Beardslee, Ron Gestring, Andrew Mohlman and Gale Bullard. Interment was in the Blue Hill Cemetery.
