He was married to Miss Marie Scheniman of Nelly's Landing, Mo., who has been employed here as a stenographer for a few years, on September 23rd, 1928.
Raymond had been in poor health and largely confined to his home for some time, but had been bedfast only about two weeks--since his return from a hospital in Memphis where he had been taken for examination, so his friends did not know the end was so near and were shocked to learn of his passing.
"Doc", as he was familiarly called, was one of the heroes of the local high school during his four years there, being an outstanding athlete and expert in both basketball and football. His gallant plays and friendly manner won for him high popularity throughout his scholastic years, which he retained unto the end, as was witnessed by the constant flow of visitors who came to see him while he was ill. He also played on an all star football team after leaving school.
Being an excellent mechanic his services were sought far and near to correct car trouble. He rendered efficient service for many years with the Monan-Cunningham Motor Company and was a member of the fire department of this city until his health became too greatly impaired for him to serve longer in that capacity.
He joined the Methodist Church at Hayti when quite young and he always retained an interest in and a love for sacred things, even though not active in church affairs. Realizing what treasures he had in his faithful wife and devoted mother he had a deep appreciation of their constancy and tender care of him.
These and others did all that loving hearts and willing hands could do for his comfort during his last illness, but ravage of the disease was more than skilled physicians and efficient care could arrest.
His body has been lying in state at his home, where a host of friends have come to offer their services and sympathy to the bereaved family. Many beautiful floral offerings have been sent in, another testimony of the esteem in which the deceased was held.
Deceased is survived in his immediate family, by his wife, Mrs. Marie Crider; two sisters, Mrs. Gordon Muir and Miss Virginia Crider.
Funeral services are being held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the home, conducted by the Rev. Elmer Peal, followed by interment at Little Prairie Cemetery. The pallbearers are: Messrs, Faris, John, Robert and Lyman Cunningham, Louis Edwards and Jimmie Knight.
