He was born June 24, 1919 in Buhler the son of Henry H. and Marie Schmidt Ediger.
As a building contractor he was co-owner/operator of Ediger Brothers Construction for 20 years then he was the owner/operator of Sam Ediger and Sons Construction. He belonged to the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, Inman and the Men's Brotherhood.
On September 12, 1943 he married Betty Jane Regehr at McPherson County, Kansas. She died July 9, 2001. On February 2, 2002 he married Linda Ediger Guhr at Newton, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include his children-Bruce and wife Sherry of Hesston, Darrell and wife DeeDee of Dalton, Ohio, David and wife Marilyn of Hesston, Bette Jo Lehrman and husband Verney of Newton; step children- Jim and wife Christy Guhr of Joplin, MO, Lynett Peters and husband Allen of Eminence, MO; 2 sisters, Marie Widmer of Washington, Iowa, Amanda Bartel of Wichita; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Raymond, Curt, and Henry, and 3 sisters, Linda Voth, Hilda Buller, and Lavina Goering.
Funeral services were Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church with Pastors Willmar Harder and Gordon Smith presiding. Burial was in the Hoffnungsau Cemetery.
