Marcellus M. Hinker, 83, of Effingham, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Mr. Hinker was born Dec. 23, 1915, in Greenwood, WI, the son of Edward B. and Frances Einck Hinker. He married Reba L. Kingery in 1944.

He was a retired U. S. Government postal railway clerk; former Effingham County deputy sheriff; member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 665, Fourth Degree and American Legion Post 120, all in Effingham, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was a lifetime membr of the Disabled American Veterans and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth R.; a daughter, Elaine R. Collins; a brother, Cletus; a sister, Edna Huinker; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham, with military rites.

Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham was in charge of arrangements.
