Frankton, Ind. - Robert D. McCarty, 75, 7551 N. 575 W., died Monday at Community Hospital in Anderson.
Born Nov. 15, 1920, in Anderson, he was the son of Marquis and Gertrude I. Sylvester McCarty.
He was a well-known farmer in the area and retired from Container Corp. in Anderson in 1983 after 25 years of employment. For the past several years he has worked as a driver for DeVoe Chevrolet of Alexandria.
He attended the Frankton Christian Church and was a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Katherine Layne McCarty; two daughters, Janet Swartz of Frankton and Ann Carr of Zionsville; a sister, Betty Swindell of Yorktown; a brother, Tom McCarty of Ruskin, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, who died in 1982; his father, who died in 1988; and a son, William McCarty, who died in 1992.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria with the Rev. Al Covell officiating. Burial will be in the K of P--IOOF Cemetery at Frankton.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Frankton Christian Church or the Madison County Heart Association through the funeral home.
