Claud David Easterlin was born on August 25, 1894 on a farm near Bowman, S.C. His parents were Julius Carn Easterling and Caroline Cook Easterling. Claud elected not to use the "G" on his last name of Easterlin.

Claud married Ruby Ethel Austin on January 16, 1916 at the home of her parents. His father Julius gave him 35 acres of land, loaned him a heifer calf and gave him $800.00 toward building a house. Claud and Ruby's first residence was the Hill's old place which was about a half mile from Claud's dad (Juilius) on Highway 210.

Claud and Ruby had three sons and a daughter: Julius Clifton Easterling, Sr.; Claud Dewey Easterling, Alva Raymond Easterling, Sr.; and Ruby Ethel Easterling.

He was a farmer as was his father Julius. He also sold "cross ties" to the Southern Railroad in Reeseville. He bought timber from his neighbors and hickory which he also sold. He ws a member of the Woodman of the World and had at one time collected delinquent county taxes. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, baseball and dancing (square dance and back and swing).

He and Ruby attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church near their home where Claud sang in the choir. He was remembered as a good singer and often sang the lead in a song. Later, he and Ruby changed churches and became memers of the Southern Methodist Church in Bowman.

On July 21, 1948, Claud died at home of a heart attack. He is buried in the small family plot in front of the church next to his wife Ruby. The graves of his sons Clifton and Claud Dewey (C.D.) are also located in the family plot near his grave.
