Mrs. Anna McNichols McVeigh passed away Sunday morning at seven o'clock at her home from pneumonia. Mrs. McVeigh had been ill only a short time when death came. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the home and at two thirty from the Community church with Rev. Sherman W. Arends officiating. Military services were conducted at the grave with Robert Erskine of the Grand Rapids Boy Scouts, sounding the taps. The Veterans of Foreign was color guard, the Auxiliary Drum Corps of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the McVeigh-Dunn post of the American Legion, and the Gold Star mothers attended the services as a body. Mrs. McVeigh was a a gold star mother and the Legion post here was named in honor of her son, Franklyn who died during the World war. Anna McNichols was born in Kiltmaugh, Ireland, February 20, 1865. She came to Michigan when she was ten years of age with her parents. She was married November 12, 1880, to John McVeigh at Norway, Michigan. Six children were born to this union: Franklyn, who died in the service, July 6, 1919, John Jr., who passed away March 14, 1907, William, Thomas, Joseph, and Mrs. Anna Dickie all residing in Grand Rapids. Her husband passed away August 9, 1920. Mrs. McVeigh came to Grand Rapids in 1891 and has resided here since that time.
