Graveside services for Emerson W. Howe, 77, Grand Rapids, will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2, 1992, at the Itasca Cemetery, Grand Rapids. The service will be officiated by the Rev. E.C. Steffy. He died Friday, Oct. 30, 1992, at the Itasca Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 6, 1915, in Vernon Center, Minn. and came to Grand Rapids in 1920 where he grew up and attended schools. He was married to Viola M. Wilson Feb. 26, 1938, in Grand Rapids and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked 35 years for the M.A. Hanna Mining Co., retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both of Grand Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Loula [Lula] Howe; a daughter, Amy Lou Howe, in 1963; and a brother Raymond. He is survived by his wife, Viola; one daughter, Esther Cole, of Circleville, Ohio; one son, Harold Howe of Niceville, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Thornberg of North Platte, Neb., ad Ellen Daugherty of McMinville, Ore.; two brothers, Erwin [Irwin] Howe of Grand Rapids and David Howe of San Jacinto, Calif.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
