George Stover was reared by his maternal grandmother Anna Maria Yeagley the wife of John Yeagley in Haines township. After a course in the district schools he studied higher branches at Mifflintown & Mifflinburg and thus prepared began the work of teaching . In 1842 he began to learn the miller's trade at Pine Creek Mills & after acquiring a knowledge of the work stayed there for a time as an employee. Later he engaged in the mercantile business at Nittany Hall. In 1848 he was married by Rev. Mr. Reese a Lutheran minister to Miss Malinda Kreider. Her grandfather Jacob Kreider a well known citizen of that day was married to Catherine Smith.
George suffered from paralysis for five years before his death.
