Jeremiah joined the Second Regiment of Queen Victoria's Life Guards at the age of 18. He served 7 years and was Honorably discharged. He and wife, Army, and 3 young sons immigrated to the United States in 1844 on the Rockall arriving in New York and going directly to Wisconsin to become one of the early pioneers and settlers in Waukesha County. Jeremiah joined the Union Army when the Civil War started and was appointed a First Lieutenant with Co F. with the 28th Wisconsin Volunteers in 1862. He was promoted to Capt. about a year later but died from a disease within a month of his promotion. He was the father of 6 sons and 1 daughter. His second son also named Jeremiah died near Little Rock, Ark. of a disease during the Civil War a few months after Jeremiah Sr's death.
