At the age of 81, Clara Mae Hatcher Dozier of Beckley, West Virginia, died peacefully September 2, 2009, after fighting a long, courageous battle with many health issues.
Born November 17, 1927, she was the daughter of Bettie Griffith and Alvis Grover Hatcher. Her siblings were Aubrey Dare Hatcher, Robert Arvid Hatcher, Frederick Moreland Hatcher, Arnold Anthony Hatcher, John Paul Hatcher, Alvis Grover Hatcher Jr., and Betty "Betsy" Hatcher.
Clara married her first husband, George Washington Williams, Jr., on May 24, 1949; and they had one daughter, Pamela. George died at the age of 55 on August 24, 1972. She later married Bernard Lee "Doe" Dozier on April 1, 1978. They were married 27 years before he passed away on February 11, 1996.
Clara graduated from Woodrow Wilson in 1945 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley. She had worked at Universal Corporation for 38 years as a bookkeeper and office manager. During those many years at Universal, she developed life-long friendships she treasured dearly. She enjoyed bowling, golf, and trips to Myrtle Beach with her friends and family. She had been a member of the Black Knight Country Club and Moose Club Chapter 822.
