Ernest Harold "Hank" Duncan, 86, died Thursday morning (5-16-02) at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Fairburn, Georgia, son of the late Ernest Guy Duncan and Annie Mae Cochran Duncan.
He was a supervisor in the car department for the SCL Railroad in the Waycross and Tampa Shops, retiring in 1976 with forty-three years of service. He served with the U. S. Airforce in the Pacific Theater during World War Two, where he flew fifty-four missions as the engineer-gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber. He was a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, where he served as a counselor in the Bishopric and as Executive Secretary in the Waycross Second Ward, and served the High Council in the Douglas Georgia Stake, and was a former member of the Waycross Exchange Club.
He was preceded in death by a brother James Duncan.
He is survived by his wife Martha Collins Duncan of Waycross; three sons Ernest Harold Duncan, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Blackshear, Ga.; David Duncan and his wife Mary of Dublin, Ga., and Tony D. Cowart and his wife Belinda of Glen St. Mary's, Fla.; a daughter Sandra Kay Duncan of Waycross; two brothers Paul Duncan of Fernandina Beach, Fla. and Hubert Duncan and his wife Esther of Waycross; two sisters Agnes McClelland of Waycross and Doris Blount and her husband Leon of Blackshear, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Fifteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon (5-18-02) at two o'clock at the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home from seven until nine o'clock Friday night.
