He was injured on June 13, 1943 when Engine 2 crashed into a telephone utility pole while responding to an alarm of fire. He died two days later at Emergency Hospital in the District of Columbia. At the time of his death he was the Vice President of the Ballston Volunteer Fire Department where he had been a member since 1929.
