Abraham T. Higley was the son of Alvin L. and Margaret (unknown) Higley and the grandson of Timothy & Polly (Allen) Higley. He was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania in 1834.

His father moved the family to Ogle County, Illinois for a short while until settling in West Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois. In the very early years of manhood, Abe moved across the plains to Sacramento County, California, which is probably where he met and married his wife, Margaret Morin and where their first child, Jacob C. Higley was born.

He and his new family moved to Portland, Oregon around 1859, then near Forest Grove, Washington, Oregon by 1860. Abraham and his sons made a living moving log homes all over the state of Oregon for many years. The family settled in Portland, Oregon in the mid 1890's and worked as Hackney drivers and Teamsters there and in Spokane and Tacoma, Washington for a few years.

In the later years of his life he was twice a resident at the County Poor Farm in Troutdale, Multnomah, Oregon. He died there on Oct 4, 1920 with his cause of death being listed as a Hernia and Old Age.

Abraham and Margaret were the parents of: Jacob C., Henrietta S. (Dully), Abraham A., Charles B., Annie, James H. Edward and William Higley.
