In Union Lawn Cemetery lies Miss Nellie Zimmerman who though deaf and blind became..."Nationally Recognized Pioneer for the Civil Rights of the Disabled," and in 1976-1980, seventeen years before its enactment by Congress, was a notable forerunner of the ADA of 1993. Miss Zimmerman was one of the first deaf blind people ever to vote in Stark County, Ohio. She attended Malone College at the age of 71 and served as an inspiration to a whole generation of young people, both able bodied and disabled.
